SUMMARY:Richard Heys
DESCRIPTION:“I’m an abstract artist\, working from a studio at Emerson College in Forest Row. In my current working practice\, I create many overlapping layers of colour and textures of paint\, through the use of squeegees\, brushes and other print making tools. The colour breaks in certain ways which may give the impression of the surface of water\, the texture of bark or a sense of a map\, an unfolding landscape through which one traverses. Nature and landscape have always been important touchstones in my work – there is a specific geography to every painting. \n“In my practice I strive to bring presence into painting\, to open up a soul space allowing the viewer to breathe with the artwork. For me\, a painting must have countenance – a spiritual presence – so that the artwork may live on in the mind of the viewer evolving over time. Aiming for mystery in this world of the known\, I create standing before the unknown. \n“My paintings are colour-driven and I create pieces with presence. My work ranges from small pieces on paper to large-scale canvases and I exhibit and sell my work in the UK and internationally.” \nOpening event Saturday 19 September 2 – 5pm with artist’s talk at 4pm\, all welcome.

SUMMARY:John Kirkpatrick
DESCRIPTION:The Victorian Farmer’s Year in Song \nFollowing his appearances on the massively popular TV series Victorian Farm\, John Kirkpatrick presents a programme of traditional songs to take us through a year in the countryside\, reflecting the highs and lows of each season\, and giving an authentic voice to the old way of life. Although agricultural working conditions in the later nineteenth century were as bad as any in the country\, the songs that have been handed down from this time choose to embody hope and optimism\, and a great delight in the processes of nature – songs designed to keep the spirits high and buoyant\, rather than dwell on the gloomier side of a life that most of us today would find quite impossible. \nSo here we have The Victorian Farmer’s Year in Song: songs about farmers\, and songs sung by farmers; songs about the work on the farm\, and songs to make that work easier; songs celebrating particular days in the country calendar\, and songs celebrating the daily miracle of life\, death and renewal. And the world we are shown here is not a romantic pastoral idyll viewed through rose-tinted spectacles – this is a world full of sweat and muck\, a world with dirt under the fingernails\, a world full of snorting\, grunting and heaving. \nAnd then there’s the animals… \nGod Speed the Plough – the CD of the show out now on Fledg’ling Records FLED 3084 \nwww.johnkirkpatrick.co.uk \n\n\nBook here

SUMMARY:Lucy Inder
DESCRIPTION:Based in Stroud\, Lucy is a landscape painter whose paintings are full of colour and pattern reminiscent of the Fauvists. \n“I love the five valleys and surrounding hills for the inspiration they provide\, ever-changing through the seasons. Walking through the hills and valleys is a feast of hues and patterns. Evocative repetitious lines and marks of the landscape remind me of childhood textiles\, patchwork shapes and tasty colour. My walks are my escape; I look to the distance and search for shapes\, colours and lost horizons to draw and paint.”

SUMMARY:Hartwin Dhoore
DESCRIPTION:Hartwin is an accordionist and composer\, born and based in the northern part of Belgium called Flanders\, the heart of Europe. The name Hartwin is old Germanic and means 'strong friend'\, a role he endeavours to fulfil in his personal life and his presence as an artist. \nHis instrumental songs serve as the medium through which he shows his most authentic self and offer hope\, joy\, and inner peace. Over the years\, he developed a unique style of playing the diatonic accordion\, combining melancholy and simplicity\, creating a cinematic and atmospheric universe. \nHis music has a certain softness that can be best experienced first-hand during live concerts where the listener finds themself in a safe space\, bathing in his musical stream. In a world where authenticity resonates deeply with listeners\, Hartwin’s music speaks to the heart and offers the accompanying soundtrack for the listener’s inward journeys and reflections. \n“The Belgian master of the diatonic accordion\, Hartwin creates instrumental music of the highest quality. Quiet\, soft listening music full of fine improvisations and tones that gently weave together\, carefully distilled into an exceptionally beautiful and evocative sound universe.” - Rootzone (Denmark) \nwww.hartwin.behttps://www.instagram.com/soundsofhartwinhttps://www.facebook.com/soundsofhartwinhttps://www.youtube.com/@soundsofhartwinhttps://linktr.ee/soundsofhartwin \n\n\nBook here

SUMMARY:Cotswold Spoon Club: The Makings of a New Wood Culture
DESCRIPTION:Hand-crafted with axes and knives: spoons\, ladles spatulas\, bowls\, stools\, chairs\, tables and other artefacts made with green wood sourced in the local landscape. \nSpoons are part of our daily lives and have been for centuries. Taken for granted and considered a mark of failure\, the wooden spoon is having a resurgence as craftspeople explore the nuances of form\, beauty and utility in space and time. Crafting wooden spoons requires many things to be truly successful: focus and patience\, a grasp of positive and negative energy\, light and dark\, a relationship to the integrity of the material and to a legacy of making through history and culture. Spoon making is sympathetic to landscape\, respects hand tools and celebrates the simple usefulness of the finished item. \nEvery month the spoon makers of all ages meet on the Duchy Farm to carve in the outdoors and share ideas of the latest handmade adventures and most importantly cake.
